Hope everyone had a good Father's Day weekend! Barbie stopped by on Friday night to check out the furniture. She liked it!! I wasn't sure she was going to get here with the weather being the way it was . . but she made it!
We had a good sized storm go through Dubuque around 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning. The rain was coming down vertically! One of the gals I work with is a weather spotter and called in a report from the window on the second floor of our office building. Lots of trees down in the city, power outages all over the place. Finley Hospital was running on generators yet when I came home Friday evening. And that was a surprise too . . . I pushed on my garage door opener to open up and nothing happened! A couple of the ladies next door were out and gave me a yell and said we didn't have any electricity!! Hadn't had any all day and no one knew when we would get some. They offered to help me get my garage door open but I told them I could handle it (I think). Well, I couldn't but Don came home about then and he helped me. I held the door (side door) so that he could kinda see and he got the door open. We left the downstairs inside door open cuz you couldn't see anything down there any way. We really should be used to that part as half the time there's no lights in the laundry room any way. It was a bit warm in my place when I opened the door. When you don't have electricity you don't have phones!! I knew there was a reason I kept one wired to the wall. I called Alliant and got a recording that they would be out in a couple of hours. Course the last call was at 11 a.m. and still no electricity. About 10,000 homes were without power on Friday. We finally got some back around 7:30 p.m. Barb got here about 9:00 and we headed out for something to eat. Had a nice meal at the Olive Garden. One of my favorite places to go in Dubuque. Thanks Barb! And thanks for the leftovers, they came in handy.
Barb left Saturday around noon for her Dad's and her celebration of Father's Day with him. Sounds like they had a good time. It rained on their parade a little but they still had a nice time.
Barb and I were discussing some things we can do the next time anyone comes home. Hopefully we can get some wires put up around here and then head out for the Mississippi River Museum. The attraction right now is lizards. You can find them all over Dubuque!!! It's quite interesting they way they promote them. One of the businesses near New View has one of them in their window. It's a 5 foot green lizard with all the different historical sites around Dubuque painted on it. If we go to the museum we can also try the river walk. And when you're down that way you might as well visit Stone Cliff Winery! There's other places to go and see here in town too. I guess I think about that after everyone leaves. Got a list started of things to do so . . . come on home kids and we'll do something together!!
The rest of my weekend was quiet -- warm, but quiet. Late Sunday evening I made a call to a friend of mine and after that I lost my phone service. My wireless phones said not available and my wired phone just had static!! I called it in on Monday morning and it finally got repaired last in the afternoon. The test run showed that a receiver was off the hook, but I unplugged and plugged my phones back in and nothing happened. No phone was off the hook in this house!! I'm glad it's back. I have my cell but didn't realize how much I use my landline!!
Sounds like hot weather for the rest of the week. Storms predicted for the rest of the week. I finally got my grill cover back on. Now I really do need a rain to wash it off!! But we can do without the storm part!! Glee and Ron are in Colorado (I envy them) hope the weather out there is good. Next year -- I really want to go back next year!
I'm working on a baby book for Jim & Mandy. Mandy asked me not to put journaling in and you'd be surprised how fast it goes. I'm leaving a place on each page for the journaling that they can either use or take out and put their own in. It's kinda fun doing it this way. I'm fairly happy with the way most of the pages have turned out so far. My passion!!
Garbage goes out tonight and mine is still sitting in the kitchen. I better go drag it out to the curb!
Have a good week.

New furniture
My new furniture arrived on Friday morning around 11 a.m. To say the least I was very excited. It's so much fun arranging a room with new stuff. I worked it out at work that I could finish a couple projects at home so that I didn't have to go back to work after receiving the new stuff. That was cool!
I'm very happy with the colors that Barb helped me choose. My sofa is a camel, a little on the gold side. The recliner is wine with some khaki in it so it matches the sofa coloring and also goes along well with my glider/rocker. That's forrest green with kahaki. I'm very happy with my choices. Of course, now I need to get some new curtains, pillows and decide what to do with the tables, etc., that I have. But that's part of the fun of getting new furniture.
I'm also in the middle of pushing furniture around in my second bedroom. I want to move my table away from the window so that I can have them open when it's nice out. Of course now it'll get good and hot and I'll have to use the A/C anyway, but I'm still going to change it for the summer months. My futon also needs some new pillows and accents to make it look a little more homey.
I'm still looking into different places to move. My leg is much better and I can almost walk without the cane. The weather has something to do with my movements, but I'm bound and determined not to have to use the cane! I am currently at the office with it sitting outside in my car. I'm afaid I'll have to use it tonight when I get home to get up the steps but once there I can again discard it. So that's improvement.
We have a couple of openings at work so that's keeping me busy. Lots of phone calls regarding the jobs. Hopefully that means lots of applications! Unfortunately fall is approaching faster than any of us want it to. We're already working on projects for August/September.
Jim & Mandy's 4th of July Bash is coming up. I'm looking forward to that. I have Friday off for that weekend so I can get ahead start on my weekend. Sounds like a lot of fun. Mandy's family is very easy to get along with and last year's party was great so . . . I don't expect anything less of this year. Best ask Mandy if I can bring anything other than myself and something to eat!! I might be able to help in some way. I'm also looking forward to spending some time with Charlotte, as I'm sure the rest of the families are too. She's changing daily. They grow so fast when those first few months!
A shopping trip is planned for later in July with my sister, my niece and my great nephew and daughter. I'm also looking forward to that. I don't know that we'll get a lot of shopping in but I know we'll have a great time!! I always have fun with my sister. She's planning a party by the creek for sometime this summer too. That should be interesting!! And fun.
I best get back to work. Have a newsletter to finish and a whole bunch of unemployment papers to finish. Have a good week all!

My Darling Granddaughter!
I'm slowly but surely learning how to make changes on my blog. Mandy is the person that set everything up for me a few years back and through trial and error I've learned how to change parts of it. I still haven't quite figured out how to change the font on the header so when I decided to change the picture I took the title off (for now).
I just had to put my picture on with Charlotte. She's such a sweet baby girl. She hardly looks like this anymore, but it's a great memory. Babies grow so fast! Can't wait to see them again.
I'm planning on July 4th fun at Jim & Mandy's. I also have a weekend shopping trip scheduled with my sister, my niece and my great-nephew. We're invading Barb's house and hoping to also visit the new baby. I don't know if Glee, Beth and Jackson want to visit long but I know I definitely want to spend some time with my children and their baby! As you can tell I'm a little partial toward her.
I have a conference scheduled in West Des Moines later in July too, so hope to spend some time with my kids. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to stay at the hotel or at Barb's. Have to work out some transportation problems first before I make the final decision.
Sounds like a nice weekend coming up -- no rain (at least that's the last I heard). I have new furniture being delivered on Friday and am really anxious to have it get here. I'm not completely sure where I'm putting everything but it'll be fun moving it about and trying different ideas. That should keep me occupied for a bit over the weekend.
I'm finishing a scrapbooking project on Jackson and preparing to start on some books about Charlotte. Have a couple of ideas I want to try. I have a couple of scrapbook magazines that I read religiously and they have some great ideas. I can't just put one picture on page (way to expensive) but I can scraplift some of their ideas for my own. It's fun trying.
I best get back to work. Hope all have a good weekend. Love my Charlotte!!!
